Araw ng Kamatayan ni Dr. Jose Rizal
Rizal Day
Wednesday, 30 Dec 2026 · Philippines · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls midweek on a Wednesday. It splits the week rather than extending the weekend, so bridging costs two days of leave either side.
What the day is for
Marks the execution of José Rizal by firing squad in Bagumbayan on 30 December 1896. Flags fly at half-mast until noon and the president leads the rites at the Rizal Monument in Luneta.
Do shops and banks close?
Regular holiday; banks and offices closed in the quiet week between Christmas and New Year.
Getting around
Roads around Rizal Park close for the morning ceremony; provincial buses are full with holiday travellers.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
