What the day is for

Ramazan Bayramı — three and a half days closing the fasting month, built around visiting elders, kissing hands and giving sweets and money to children. Dates move about eleven days earlier each year.

Do shops and banks close?

Banks, offices and government close for the whole bayram; malls and restaurants stay open.

Getting around

The largest internal travel wave of the year: intercity coaches and flights sell out well ahead, and motorway tolls are often waived.
