What the day is for
Undas is the biggest family movement of the Filipino year: cemeteries fill from the night before with food, candles and overnight vigils at family plots, running into All Souls' Day on 2 November.
Do shops and banks close?
A special non-working day. Offices and banks close, malls open, and roadside candle and flower selling takes over whole neighbourhoods.
Getting around
Provincial buses, ferries and flights sell out days ahead. Expect cemetery-area road closures and heavy northbound expressway traffic.
