Malta has one of the longest holiday lists in Europe — fourteen days, mixing Catholic feasts with five national days including Sette Giugno, Victory Day and Republic Day.
Days falling at a weekend are added back to annual leave entitlement, a rule restored in 2022. Village festa season in summer shapes local time off as much as the national list does.
Every village holds its own festa with fireworks and band marches from June to September; these are not public holidays but they close streets and fill buses.
8 September and 8 December are taken seriously; supermarkets close and bus services thin out considerably.
Observance, business closures and transport impact for the next few dates.
