What closes on a public holiday in Australia

On a nationwide public holiday in Australia, government offices, schools and banks close, and most shops keep reduced or holiday hours. Regional days off only apply in the states or regions that observe them, so a shop in one region may be open while the same chain is shut in another. Dates below come from the official national calendar and are checked against government sources.
