Bridge day check
Falls on a Monday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
The late-May Monday, fixed since 1971 and usually falling alongside school half-term, which makes it the busiest domestic travel weekend before August.
Do shops and banks close?
Banks close; shops and attractions run peak-season hours.
Getting around
Very heavy traffic to the south-west and the coast; rail runs a Sunday or Saturday service.
When it falls each year
