Good Friday
Friday, 3 Apr 2026 · United Kingdom · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Friday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
A bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and in Scotland by custom rather than statute. Quieter than Easter Monday, with church services and hot cross buns as the main markers.
Do shops and banks close?
Banks close; most large shops open with Sunday-style hours. Pubs trade normally.
Getting around
Engineering works traditionally take over the rail network over the Easter weekend — check before travelling.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
