Bridge day check
Falls on a Thursday. Book the Friday off and you get a four-day weekend — the classic bridge day.
Book off 5 Jun 2026 for 4 days off.
What the day is for
A Catholic feast marked with processions through flower-carpeted streets, most elaborately in Ponta Delgada and several interior towns. Restored to the national calendar in 2016.
Do shops and banks close?
Banks and public offices close; retail varies by region and is usually open in the cities.
Getting around
Sunday services, with town-centre closures where processions run.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
