Boxing Day
Monday, 28 Dec 2026 · New Zealand · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Monday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
The day after Christmas — traditionally for visiting, sport fixtures and, more recently, the sales.
Do shops and banks close?
A bank holiday, but large retailers open for discount trading in many countries.
Getting around
Limited early services; shopping districts get very crowded from mid-morning.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
