Labour Day
Saturday, 23 May 2026 · Jamaica · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on the weekend, so it costs most people no leave — and in many countries no day is given back.
What the day is for
23 May is observed as a national day of voluntary community work — painting schools, clearing gullies and planting trees — rather than a day of rest. The theme is announced by the government each year.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; banks and offices close, though many people spend the morning on community projects before the beach.
Getting around
Sunday schedules.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
