Ascension Day
Thursday, 14 May 2026 · Germany · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Thursday. Book the Friday off and you get a four-day weekend — the classic bridge day.
Book off 15 May 2026 for 4 days off.
What the day is for
Christi Himmelfahrt doubles as Vatertag, when groups of men pull wagons of beer through the countryside. The Friday after is the country's most-taken Brückentag.
Do shops and banks close?
All retail closed under shop-closing law; beer gardens and restaurants very busy.
Getting around
Sunday services and heavy regional rail loading; expect crowded trains into the countryside.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
