Memorial Day
Monday, 25 May 2026 · United States · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Monday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
The last Monday in May, honouring military dead, with cemetery ceremonies in the morning. It also functions as the unofficial start of summer.
Do shops and banks close?
Federal offices and banks close; retail runs one of the year's biggest sales weekends.
Getting around
Very heavy outbound road traffic on the Friday and returning Monday evening.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
