Union Day/Small Union
Saturday, 24 Jan 2026 · Romania · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on the weekend, so it costs most people no leave — and in many countries no day is given back.
What the day is for
24 January marks the 1859 union of Moldavia and Wallachia under Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Crowds link arms for the Hora Unirii, the circle dance, in city squares.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; banks and public offices close, retail largely open.
Getting around
Sunday timetables.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
