Fiestas Patrias
Independence Day
Wednesday, 29 Jul 2026 · Peru · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls midweek on a Wednesday. It splits the week rather than extending the weekend, so bridging costs two days of leave either side.
What the day is for
Fiestas Patrias runs 28 and 29 July, marking San Martín's 1821 proclamation and honouring the armed forces the day after. Every building is required to fly the flag through the month.
Do shops and banks close?
Both days are public holidays and most of the country takes the week; banks, offices and many shops close.
Getting around
The busiest travel week of the Peruvian year — Cusco and the northern beaches fill, and buses and flights sell out weeks ahead.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
