Groussherzogsgebuertsdag
Sovereign's birthday
Tuesday, 23 Jun 2026 · Luxembourg · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Tuesday. Book the Monday off and you get a four-day weekend — expect a lot of colleagues to do exactly that.
Book off 22 Jun 2026 for 4 days off.
What the day is for
The Grand Duke's official birthday on 23 June, not the actual one. The eve is the real event: torchlit parade, fireworks over the Pétrusse valley and a night out across the capital, followed by a Te Deum and military parade the next morning.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; banks, offices and most shops close on the day itself.
Getting around
Public transport is free nationwide anyway; extra late services run on the eve and the city centre closes to traffic.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
