Europe Day
Saturday, 9 May 2026 · Luxembourg · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on the weekend, so it costs most people no leave — and in many countries no day is given back.
What the day is for
9 May marks the 1950 Schuman Declaration. Luxembourg made it a full public holiday in 2019 — appropriate for a country hosting the Court of Justice and much of the EU's administrative machinery.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; banks, offices and EU institutions close.
Getting around
Sunday timetables; Kirchberg is unusually quiet.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
