National Heroes Day
Friday, 16 Oct 2026 · Jamaica · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Friday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
The third Monday of October honours Jamaica's seven national heroes, from Nanny of the Maroons to Marcus Garvey. Wreath-laying at National Heroes Park and award ceremonies are the core of the day.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; banks and offices close. Many Jamaicans treat it as the start of a long weekend at the beach or in the hills.
Getting around
Sunday schedules; extra traffic out of Kingston on the Friday afternoon before.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
