Καθαρά Δευτέρα
Clean Monday
Monday, 23 Feb 2026 · Greece · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Monday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
Kathara Deftera opens Lent: kite-flying on any open hillside, lagana flatbread and seafood meze without meat or dairy. The most widely enjoyed of the Greek holidays.
Do shops and banks close?
Banks, offices and most shops closed; tavernas run full.
Getting around
Heavy weekend exodus from Athens and packed ferries to the nearby islands.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
