Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian defenders
Wednesday, 5 Aug 2026 · Croatia · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls midweek on a Wednesday. It splits the week rather than extending the weekend, so bridging costs two days of leave either side.
What the day is for
5 August marks the 1995 recapture of Knin at the end of Operation Storm, the decisive action of the Homeland War. The central ceremony is in Knin itself, with a mass and a military parade; it remains a contested date regionally.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; banks, offices and most shops close.
Getting around
Sunday services in peak tourist season; heavy coastal traffic and full ferries.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
