Victoria Day
Monday, 18 May 2026 · Canada · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Monday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
The Monday before 25 May, nominally the sovereign's birthday, in practice the unofficial start of summer — cottages open, gardens get planted, fireworks go up.
Do shops and banks close?
Banks and government close; retail largely open outside Quebec.
Getting around
Holiday timetables and very heavy Friday-afternoon traffic out of Toronto and Montreal.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
