Thanksgiving
Monday, 12 Oct 2026 · Canada · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on a Monday, so it makes a three-day weekend with no leave needed.
What the day is for
Canadian Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday of October, six weeks before the American one, and is tied to the harvest rather than the Pilgrim story. A family dinner rather than a public spectacle.
Do shops and banks close?
Statutory in most provinces: banks, government and many shops close. Optional in Atlantic Canada, where retail often trades.
Getting around
Holiday timetables; the leaf-peeping drive out of the cities makes it one of the busiest road weekends of the autumn.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
