শহিদ দিবস ও আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস
International Mother Language Day
Saturday, 21 Feb 2026 · Bangladesh · Nationwide · Public holiday
Bridge day check
Falls on the weekend, so it costs most people no leave — and in many countries no day is given back.
What the day is for
21 February (Shaheed Dibosh) remembers students killed in 1952 defending Bengali as a state language. Crowds walk barefoot to the Shaheed Minar in Dhaka from midnight to lay flowers.
Do shops and banks close?
Public holiday; government offices, banks and schools close.
Getting around
Roads around Dhaka University are closed overnight and into the morning.
When it falls each year
Floating holidays shift; fixed ones move only in which weekday they land on.
